Movement and Transport Interchange

1/2

Connectivity Strategy

In terms of movement and transport, the Ebbsfleet Central East site benefits from unparalleled connectivity which will be reinforced by providing a network of well-designed public and green spaces and new connections across the site and to wider communities. These will be designed to encourage walking and cycling. The routes are focused on improving connectivity east-west across the site and connecting to the wider network of public footpaths and cycleways and to our existing communities including Northfleet and Springhead Park.

International Station

The proposals do not include alteration to the Station Building however some of the existing station facilities including bus stops and the drop-off area will all be relocated in close proximity of the station entrances, alongside disabled parking. The arrival to the station is an important part of the scheme. Our proposals link the station to the wider development using active streets with shops, cafes and restaurants leading to the station.

Existing station facilities relocated (bus stops, drop-off area and station car parks)

Public Transport

Ebbsfleet Central East includes a number of improvements to the public transport in the area. New and re-aligned roads will allow FastTrack and Local Buses to move efficiently through the area and potentially achieve journey time savings (see following pages for further detail).

New bus stops will be provided on key routes through the development and we are aiming for every home to be within 400m of a local bus stop and 500m of a FastTrack bus stop.

Active Travel

Cycle Routes

The proposed cycle routes are shown in the image below. New routes through the development have been included to provide attractive routes linking key destinations. These include routes alongside roads and car-free routes.

Existing and Proposed Cycling Routes

Pedestrian Routes

There are a number of new key pedestrian routes proposed as part of Ebbsfleet Central East:

  • A route running through Northfleet Rise along the river linking in the north to routes to Northfleet and Swanscombe and in the south to the River Park and Station Gardens;
  • An east-west route running through Station Gardens leading to the new public square and unfinished bridge. The link across the unfinished bridge is intended to be part of our plans for the western side of Ebbsfleet Central; and,
  • A north -south route through Station Gardens linking the station to the main commercial hub and to Blue Lake.

Existing and Proposed Walking Routes

Future connection to Northfleet

There are existing routes which connect Northfleet and Ebbsfleet Central however there is no direct north-east connection between the two areas. Our plan will make provision for a much more direct pedestrian connection between Northfleet and Ebbsfleet International Stations, enabling much quicker access from Northfleet High Street to Ebbsfleet Central and the high speed line station.

  • Within Northfleet Rise, changing the existing roundabouts to signalised junctions including pedestrian and cycle crossing provision (3); and,
